Well that’s pretty easy to answer, for a long time I had my eye on IE for a programme, they have an amazing reputation for being innovative and entrepreneurial which is great if you aren’t only interested in a career in Investment Banking or Consultancy. Nothing wrong with those sectors at all; just not for me (and IE do put serious numbers of people into both each year). So on this programme all the ‘traditional’ MBA areas are covered by IE: finance, accounting, strategy etc plus dollops of cool innovation. Tie that in with an amazing East Coast, Ivy League, Liberal Arts education covering Philosophy, Arts, Health, Psychology, Ethics, Creativity… the list goes on! It really was a total no-brainer. It should mean that when we come out we should not only be great managers and entrepreneurs but also have a keen understanding of what makes people and societies work; and how business fits into this. That is of course if we’re able to survive the next 15 months. Oh, there’s a FaceBook group as well: IE Brown Exec MBA 2012!

Thanks for enlightening me. I’m from the Philippines and I’ve been contemplating on going back to school while maintaining my day job. Then I learned about the Emba . I began researching until I learned about IE. The school is not known here in our country but from my research looks like IE’s approach, delivery and focus in innovation and entrepreneurship is very interesting esp this new program.
I was just wondering why Brown is not conferring the degree only IE. Shouldn’t it be by both universities?

Well IE do very well in all the major rankings (FT, Economist, Wall Street Journal all rank them very highly) Good Asian representation on our programme too!
Brown don’t confer the degree as it is an MBA, Brown are rare in the sense that as an Ivy League school they dont have a business school, so cant actually confer these degrees. Whats your background Abbie, what industry are you in, how long in your current role? Maybe I can get someone with a similar background from the programme, or IE itself, to answer any specifics? My background is in finance specifically consumer lending in the retail banking industry. I have 15 yrs. of working experience mostly from Citibank then GE Money and finally BDO, my current employer. BDO is the biggest local bank in the Phils. Most of my experience evolves in the credit cycle. My last post in GE Money was being the head of the Credit Cycle Group. Right now, I head the Workflow Excellence Group which set up the continuous improvement program for the entire bank using the Lean Six Sigma framework.
I was able to attend an IE event, in fact, it was your first day of school that time according to the IE representative. I wanted to find out more about the program from the students but since program just started, there were no feedback available until I found your blog, thank God. I will follow your posts and I’ll ask question, hope you won’t mind considering your tough schedule =)
